Best of the blogs: Food

Seeking inspiration for some content about food? Look no further than this selection of blogs…

The London Foodie
Luiz Hara’s blog is always worth a look. As an investment banker turned Cordon Bleu chef, Luiz draws from a broad set of experiences in his posts, which cover restaurant reviews, recipes, travel escapades and anything else vaguely culinary – he even scrutinises scran from the M&S lunchtime fridge.

VK Rees
Not a ‘blog’ in its traditional sense, VK Rees simply shares pictures he has taken of food. But this is nothing like you’d see on a foodie’s Pinterest page. Rees is a professional food photographer, meaning the blog will inspire your eyes (and stomach) more than your head. It’s well worth visiting for the menu of weird and sometimes chunder-ful food Rees gets to shoot for avant garde food magazines. It’s no surprise the blog won the Saveur 2013 Best Food Blog Awards for photography.

Eat like a girl
For eclectic, funny and sharp writing, look no further than Eat like a girl. As the URL suggests, Jack Monroe is indeed a female who writes recipes, covers news and churns out the odd book.

Pen and Palate
Like those pen-and-ink illustrations on the Waitrose essential range? Look to Pen and Palate for more of the same-ish, with some insightful narrative on the side. The blog is barely more than two years old, but with its uncluttered take on cookery it’s fair to say that Pen and Palate is mature beyond its years. Some of the articles tend toward naval gazing, but it’s none the worse for it.

Thug Kitchen
If there’s one thing chefs drop more than yolks in flour, it’s the F-bomb. And we’re not talking fudge. Thug Kitchen is worth reading for its effortless, liberal sprinkling of expletives – as numerous and colourful as hundreds and thousands dotted on a sticky bun. Admittedly more Gordon Ramsay than Mary Berry, the blog is there for pure (and puerile) entertainment.
