Three White Board Friday videos you must watch

As content-marketing vehicles go, Moz’s White Board Friday series practises what it preaches. To those unfamiliar with the company, Moz develops and sells a range of SEO tools to their customers and, owing to the nature of the marketing/SEO beast, this entails touching on the subject of content marketing. A lot. The company’s White Board Friday video series is arguably its most popular form of content – and it achieves this by talking a lot about SEO and, ergo, content marketing.

There are well over 100 videos in the series – mostly written and presented by the inimitable Rand Fishkin – and, although we recommend you take time to view dozens, there are three that really stand out.

How to Win a Content Arms Race

The words ‘content strategy’ are only slightly less repellant than ‘marketing funnel’, and both of them feature in this video. But handled with care, as Fishkin does here, the powerful ideas around audience engagement that underpin them can be preserved. This video is really about the types of content companies should produce,  and how to use comparative strengths to outshine the competition.

How Do I Find a Good SEO?

You might read that SEO is dead purely by dint of the primacy of content. By posting wonderful blogs, videos and cartoons, you can climb to the top of search rankings etc. Although quality content is vital, often it isn’t enough alone to propel you search nirvana.

This video is actually a brave topic for Moz to address, because SEO professionals may not necessarily endorse the company’s tools. Delightfully, there are some gems in the video, and Fishkin is genuinely trying to help the viewer, rather than trying to plug Moz tools. He makes the intelligent point that the process of hiring can be a healthy thing.

An SEO Checklist for New Sites

And if you don’t have money to hire an SEO specialist? Going the DIY route may be your own option. You may not be able to pick up some of the finer subtleties that a professional could exploit, but this checklist will probably get you over the SEO line. For free. And in under 15 minutes.

As ever, Fishkin covers a lot of ground in his down-to-earth, relaxed style: what to do with social accounts; usability; content quality; link building, and more.

Enjoy!
