The three content-marketing podcasts you can’t miss

According to Quartz’s John McDuling, the podcast is having a moment.

Ever since [Serial] the true crime audio series captivated much of the US last year, it’s felt like everyone (or those in the media world at least) is talking about podcasts. Indeed, despite the death of the device upon which they were spawned (the iPod) right now really is the podcast’s moment in the sun.

According to some indications – notably the downloads of podcasts from hosting service Libsyn – the medium’s popularity increased  37.5% in 2014.

McDuling concludes:

Advertisers are interested in podcasts because they (arguably) offer higher engagement levels than visual forms of media like text and video. Until advertisers find their next media darling, there are sure to be many more podcasts to come.

To those offering advice on content marketing, the rush to podcasting is an exercise in practising what they preach. Here are three of the best podcasts on content marketing.

1. The 10-Minute Marketing Show

Created by Kim Roach, blogger and internet marketing strategist, this podcast tackles the publishing side of content. Each episode typically lasts 12 minutes, and topics covered include iTunes SEO tricks, WordPress plugins and keyword research. Although it might not tackle the creative side on content, it will no less delight in those tasked with content promotion.

2. Content Marketing Podcast

Don’t let this podcast’s title put you off. Yes, its name may be  unimaginative (probably for SEO reasons) but the Content Marketing Podcast is full of engaging themes that will poke your neurons. Example: ‘Episode 108: the Four Faces of the Content Marketing Writer’.

3. This Old Marketing

Possibly the Mark and Lard of the content marketing world… Ok, there are two of them and they talk in relaxed tones about their subject matter. The comparison may wane at this point, but Joe Pulizzi’s profile and clout in the industry means this podcast is an invaluable source for what’s happening – and vaguely hip – in marketing circles. Expect case studies, news-based features and an episode titled ‘Chipotle Calls on Best-Selling Writers for Soda Cups.
