Best of the blogs: Politics

Need some inspiration for some content on politics? Look no further than this selection of blogs…

1. Coffee House
For a broadly right-wing take on British politics, look no further than the political blog of The Spectator. With contributors such as Rod Liddle, Nick Cohen and Camilla Swift on side Coffee House is rightly at the forefront of right-of-centre thinking on all things Westminster.

2. The Staggers
Coffee House’s left-wing equivalent is The Staggers – the ‘rolling politics blog’ from the New Statesman. Expect seven to eight updates a day from a team of New Statesman staffers. Browse elsewhere to find contributors such as Hunter Davies, John Pilger and Will Self.

3. Europp
It’s probably fair to say that the mainstream press is better at covering national politics than Europe. Luckily, the LSE has picked up the blue baton. Its Europp blog caters more politics wonks than the man in the street, but it remains accessible and readable. Expect analysis, data, argument, comment and more data.

4. Guido Fawkes
Rarely does a single blogger wield such power, provide such regular criticism and enjoy such a readership as Paul Staines, AKA Guido Fawkes. Staines started out in 2004, and since then he has notched up more than 16,000 posts. In that time he has been a constant thorn in the side of politicians and the establishment, and even appeared at the Leveson enquiry for leaking some of its submission documents.

5. Huffington Post
Understand US politics? The Huffington Post is probably the best resource for anyone seeking a quick dip. The blog is updated with daily stories from the Associated Press, and it features high-grade analysis of hot issues from politicians, adviser, academics and, of course, journalists.
